The New York City Police Foundation - A Partnership For A Safer City
The New York City Police Foundation, Inc. was established in 1971 by business and civic leaders as an independent, non-profit organization to strengthen the services of the New York City Police Department and to improve public safety in New York City.
The Police Foundation, the only organization authorized to raise funds for the NYPD, does not solicit by telephone or use telemarketers.
The Police Foundation supports NYPD programs that the City cannot readily fund.
Since 93% of the NYPD's annual budget goes directly to personnel services leaving few dollars for innovation, the Police Foundation helps the NYPD to keep pace with rapidly evolving technology, training techniques and strategies.
The Police Foundation is the first municipal foundation of its type in the country, and serves as a model for similar organizations in other cities.
By supporting innovative projects, our public-private partnership provides the NYPD with the means to launch experimental programs and further its professionalism. The generosity of our community of donors has helped us to invest $81 million in NYPD programs.
Our Approach
The Police Foundation assists, encourages and supports the NYPD with funding and collaboration in two main areas:
Programs, research studies and equipment to improve the effectiveness of police activities; and
Education in community awareness and skill development to strengthen the partnership between the police and the public.
Public safety cannot rest on the shoulders of law enforcement agencies alone. As much as we all need the police, they need our support as well. Please join us in our important work by contributing as generously as you can. Contributions to the Police Foundation are tax-deductible under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Privacy Policy - The New York City Police Foundation does not sell, rent or loan the addresses or e-mail addresses of our donors and constituents.
Our office space is generously provided by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.
