Case Solved through Crime Stoppers Tip
Thanks to a tip made to Crime Stoppers, an armed robber who has been targeting elderly women in Brooklyn and Queens has been arrested.
The suspect was wanted in connection with eight robberies targeting senior citizens. Earlier in the month, the suspect attacked a 91-year-old woman in Park Slope, approaching her with a gun. In March, an 84-year-old woman was beaten in her Brooklyn home when the suspect hit her so hard that he broke her nose. Most of his victims were in their 80s or 90s, and a number were assaulted.
The suspect was arrested after a tip came in to the Crime Stoppers hotline, (800) 577-TIPS (8477), at 11:15 a.m. and by 11:35 a.m., the suspect was in custody.
The NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Program allows the general public to anonymously report information about violent crimes. With the public’s help, the NYPD has captured some of the city’s most dangerous criminals through the program. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of up to $2,500 for anonymous tips that lead to the arrest and indictment of violent criminals.
The New York City Police Foundation administers the program’s rewards funds and sponsors its promotional activities to encourage public awareness and support. Because private funding is necessary to maintain the anonymity of callers, all Crime Stoppers rewards are paid by the Police Foundation—over $2.1 million rewards approved, to date.
When it comes to a safer New York, there’s no better investment than the Police Foundation, the only organization authorized to raise funds for the NYPD.
