COLLEGE LOAN REIMURSEMENT PROGRAM

See Video

The NYPD is now several thousand officers below its budgeted human resource allotment. Recruitment, if not addressed quickly, will impact the quality of policing in our city and, our safety.

"There is no more pressing issue facing the department today than attracting qualified candidates to the police academy."
- Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly

To enhance hiring incentives offered by the NYPD, the foundation established the College Loan Reimbursement Program (CLRP). Beginning with the January, 2008 class, the program provides partial reimbursement of college tuition loans to police candidates who complete
the Academy training and remain employed by the NYPD for five years. By easing some of the financial burdens of entering the NYPD, we hope to attract greater numbers to a career in the department and assist in filling the hiring gap.
