STOPPING COUNTERFEIT MERCHANDISE

Counterfeit merchandise is a $600 billion enterprise that supports a host of other illegal activities. Law enforcement agencies have linked profits from this trade to terrorism, drug cartels, and organized crime. In addition, the manufacturers of these goods widely exploit child labor. New York City loses an estimated $1 billion annually in tax revenues due to counterfeit sales.

The Police Foundation maintains a special fund to support the NYPD's undercover operations that are producing high-level arrests of manufacturers, brokers and dealers in counterfeit goods.

The Police Foundation has also partnered with Harper's Bazaar and the International Trademark Alliance to raise public awareness of this growing global problem.
