Sergeant Christopher Newsom: On Thursday, December 10, 2009, Sergeant Newsom, working in plain clothes in an unmarked vehicle approached a peddler selling CD’s in front of 1515 Broadway. The peddler began to flee and Sergeant Newsom followed him. The peddler ran into a corridor and fired two shots from a Moc-10 semi-automatic weapon. Sergeant Newsom returned fire, striking the perpetrator who later succumbed to his wounds. Sergeant Newsom was able to subdue this dangerous situation without endangering the safety of the many innocent civilians in this highly trafficked Times Square neighborhood.
