NYC Police Foundation Dedicates Real Time Crime Center Emergency Mobile Response Van

The Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) Emergency Mobile Response Van, unveiled on November 15 at Police Headquarters, is a new state-of-the-art mobile command center that will assist in the field during critical incidents. Made possible through a generous donation from the New York City Police Foundation (NYCPF), the vehicle is dedicated in memory of fallen NYPD hero, Detective Joseph Paolillo.

Detective Paolillo was assigned to the RTCC on September 11, 2001 and immediately responded to the World Trade Center (WTC) following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. He died as a result of cancer that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at Ground Zero. Tragically, his brother, FDNY Battalion Chief John Paolillo, perished when the WTC North Tower collapsed on September 11th.  Detective Paolillo had served with the New York City Police Department for 30 years, and his selfless commitment to duty and tireless efforts at Ground Zero serve as a poignant reminder of his unwavering bravery and sacrifice.

About the NYPD’s Real Time Crime Center:
In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on 9/11, the New York City Police Department sought to establish a first-rate citywide communications system that provided detectives, field investigators and officers with access to timely, accurate and thorough information. In 2003, the New York City Police Foundation launched a major initiative to raise the funds for the NYPD’s RTCC at One Police Plaza, which would facilitate the vital flow of information from the Data Warehouse, to the RTCC for analysis, and then back to the appropriate levels in the field. The new RTCC Emergency Mobile Response Van will replace and expand upon the capabilities of the original vehicle that was first unveiled in 2005.
