Key Announcements
-
Among the major updates, Commissioner Tisch announced that the Bronx will be divided into two patrol boroughs: Patrol Borough Bronx North and Patrol Borough Bronx South. The restructuring will allow the Department to deploy additional officers and resources across the borough’s eight precincts, enhancing operational effectiveness and community engagement. The change is designed to bring the Bronx’s 1.4 million residents to the same level of patrol structure as Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, each of which currently operates with two patrol borough commands.
-
The Commissioner also unveiled plans to modernize the city’s 311 system to better address quality-of-life concerns. A new digital dispatch system will streamline 311 calls assigned to the NYPD’s Q-Teams, ensuring they are handled with the same structure, tracking, and accountability as 911 calls. The upgraded system will enable officers to more effectively track, respond to, and close out cases—strengthening quality-of-life enforcement across the five boroughs.
-
The NYPD will soon launch its Domain Awareness System 2.0 – a modernized platform designed to strengthen patrol and support investigations in real time.
-
Additionally, Commissioner Tisch reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to expanded, ongoing in-service officer training.
-
Cardinal Timothy Dolan and the Reverend A.R. Bernard were announced as NYPD Co-Chief Chaplains.
-
The Police Academy will also be renamed in honor of Detective Steven McDonald, whose extraordinary resilience and compassion in the face of unimaginable tragedy stand as a lasting example of true moral courage.
The Police Foundation extends its gratitude to its Board of Trustees, donors, community partners, and the dedicated members of the NYPD for their continued commitment to building a safer city together.
